>> We are NIOSH. That's the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. And we're part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I'm sure you've heard of the CDC, right? >> Yeah, I've heard of the CDC, but what does NIOSH do? >> Well, NIOSH does research and provides direct services to employees and employers. We're here to tell you about one specific NIOSH activity. A free government service that focuses on occupational safety and health. We respond to requests to evaluate workplaces throughout the United States. >> A free service? So who can request an evaluation? >> Requests can come from employers, employees and union representatives. Really, anyone who has a safety or health concern about their workplace. We call this a Health Hazard Evaluation, or an HHE for short. >> We serve as a neutral third party and involve all players in every aspect of our evaluation. >> That's right. We assist in workplaces throughout the United States in a non-enforcement and non-regulatory capacity. >> We act in one of two ways, we either consult with the players and gather information through conference calls and document reviews, or we come to the worksite to evaluate workplace exposures, conditions and health concerns. >> Right again. After our evaluation is complete we issue a report to the people at the workplace and make it available to the public. In the report we state what we did and what we found. >> And then we recommend ways to reduce or eliminate the identified hazards. >> So now you know what an HHE is, but I'm sure you still have a few questions, or want to request one for your workplace. So please, visit our website for more information.
